Fun Spongebob Squarepants Facts!
If your kids love Spongebob and lets face it, most of them do, then you have probably seen many hours of his cartoons and watched your kids color in tons of his coloring pages. How much do you really know about the Yellow Sponge anyway? Well, heres a quick rundown of info on him so you can talk to your kids with knowledge about their favourite cartoon hero.
Spongebob is officially a sea sponge, but yes you are right, he is drawn like a kitchen sponge! He works at the Krusty Krab restaurant as a fry cook and he loves his job. Living with his pet snaill called Gary in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom and in his free time seems to usually get into some crazy antics with his best friend Patrick the Starfish.
The character was created by Stephen Hillenburg and he wanted to make a loveable person in the same vein as Laurel and Hardy or Pee-Wee Herman. I think he succeeded very well. Originally he was called Spongeboy but it turned out that name was already in use for something else, so Spongebob Squarepants was born!
With adults, Spongebob is quite polarising. That is to say you either love him or hate him. His high pitched voice isn't everyones cup of tea I guess. Spongebob is a well meaning slightly crazy character and regardless of what happens in his shows you can be sure Spongebob meant well or was only trying to help! His neighbour and co-worker Squidward seems to bear the brunt of his out of control antics more often than he would like!
