Halloween is just such a fun holiday and nowadays it is much more aimed at fun that when I was kid. Back them it was a lot creepier but I guess thanks to its commercialisation it has all been toned down and made a lot less intimidating to children.
Bizzarrely for such a well known holiday it is not known exactly how it started, where or even what its meaning was. There have been plenty of theories but I guess until someone invents time travel and goes back to check it out we will not know! In some parts of the world Masks were worn at this time of year to scare off evil spirits and if you look into the old traditions you will be shocked how gruesome some parts of them can be. Too gruesome for this kids blog that's for sure.
Kids love to get something for free especially candy so the practice of Trick or Treating will likely continue for make years to come. It's great to see the kids wandering the streets safely while dressed up to look like something that just escaped from a Scooby Doo cartoon!
Some of the holidays origins lie in the Pagan Festival of the Dead, while it also has Celtic ties and even though it seems against Christian belief, many such households celebrate the holdiay. I guess that's testament to the popularity of this good natured and scarily fun holiday.
