It seems that our Spiderman Coloring Pages are very popular with boys, especially once they get over the age of six or so. I guess that's the point at which they seem to crave a bit more adventure, drama and action. If you have kids who are fans of the friendly neighbourhood webslinger then here's all the info you need to be able to follow your childs hero.
Spiderman first appeared in 1962 (can you believe that!) in the pages of the comicbook called Amazing Fantasy. Issue number 15 to be exact. Like all new heroes in those days he didn't get to first appear in his own title and had to be tried and tested elsewhere first. Spiderman was one of the few that really caught on quickly though and he got his own title soon after.
Part of his success was down the fact that when he was first created teenage heroes were few and far between. Even then they were normally in the sidekick role and certainly not the star. Teenage readers could identify with Peter Parker and his problems while young readers wanted to grow up to be him. Gaining his powers as a result of a bite from a radioactive spider, Peter Parker soon learns to use his newfound powers to fight crime. Able to stick to walls, jump great heights and posessing incredible strength he soon becomes a force to be reckoned with. He also gains Spidersense which is like a warning radar that helps alert him to incoming danger meaning he is much more likely to be able to dodge or deflect incoming attacks or projectiles.
Spider-man has had many fantastic cartoons and movies over the years. Some of the credit for their success muct surely belong to his colorful range of villains. With bad guys like the Lizard, Doctor Octopus, The Green Goblin, The Rhino, Sandman and many more you can always be sure that the guy trying to beat on our hero is interesting to read about!
Spidey has been one of comics most enduring heroes and is a true worldwide icon. You can see his bright red webbed costume on thousands of products licensed around the world from lunchboxes, bags, coats, pens, posters to pretty much everything you can imagine. In fact I am pretty sure when I was a kid I had a much loved pair of Spiderman underpants.
