Kitty is made by the Sanrio company in Japan. She was first designed by Yuko Shimizu in 1975. She has now featured on thousands of products worldwide, all licensed merchandise such as handbags, umbrellas, toys, keyboards, toilet seats, pretty much anything you can think of!
Kitty has a real surname which is White. She lives in England, in London along with her mother and father. She is a twin to her sister Mimmy. The only way to tell them apart is by which side of the head the bow is on. Kitty wears hers on her left (the right as we look at her).
According to Hello Kitty's official bio on Sanrio's website, "Kitty is a cheerful, warm-hearted little girl. Baking cookies is her forte, but what she enjoys most is eating a slice of Mama's apple pie!" We also learn that her favorite things include candy, stars, and goldfish, as well as the inevitable "small, cute things." Hello Kitty is in third grade. She weighs the same as three apples and stands five apples tall. Her blood type is A.

Hello Kitty has been the star of her own anime series in Japan and America. She's been a part of Hello Kitty's Animation Theatre, which featured remakes of popular fairy tales. Hello Kitty is still a kitten despite being born on November 1, 1974, such is the luck of a fictional cartoon character.
She made her first appearance on a coin purse in Japan in 1974. The Hello Kitty line has since developed licensing arrangements worth more than $1 billion a year in sales! Hello Kitty is now sold in 60 countries.
There are even some reports that Bill Gates once offered $5.6 billion for the rights to Kitty. Not sure we believe that one though lol
